# OUDEA Trademark Policy

OUDEA™ is claimed as a trademark of Liberbyte GmbH.

This policy is separate from the copyright license for the OUDEA specification and from the licensing of any software implementation.

## Descriptive use

Third parties may refer to OUDEA to identify the specification or specification version that their software, service, documentation, or research targets. Examples of descriptive use include:

- `implements OUDEA v0.1`
- `designed for the OUDEA architecture`
- `interoperates with OUDEA v0.1`

A descriptive statement must not imply sponsorship, certification, endorsement, partnership, or official status by Liberbyte GmbH unless such status has actually been granted.

Until the OUDEA conformance rules are completed, statements such as `OUDEA certified` or claims that imply an official certification programme SHOULD NOT be used.

## Product names, project names, domains and logos

Use of OUDEA as the principal part of a third-party product, service, company, project, domain name, or logo may create confusion about canonical or official status and therefore requires prior permission from Liberbyte GmbH.

The OUDEA logo, if published, is not licensed by the specification documentation license unless explicitly stated otherwise.

## Canonical specification

Only the specification published through the canonical OUDEA project and identified as canonical by Liberbyte GmbH may be represented as the canonical OUDEA specification.

Independent implementations are encouraged. An implementation does not become an official or canonical OUDEA implementation merely by implementing the public contracts.

## Trademark and copyright are separate

The Creative Commons license applied to the specification documentation does not grant trademark rights. Likewise, the OUDEA trademark does not restrict independent implementation of the public interoperability contracts.

Do not use the registered trademark symbol `®` unless the mark is registered in the relevant jurisdiction and that use is legally appropriate.
